Connecting Your Headset

Most office phones require a switchbox to select headset or handset operation. The switchbox has calibrations to match the headset to the specific phone, and provides volume control and microphone muting. Some models have extra features, such as recorder output. Installation is usually very easy, and takes just a minute or two, with no special tools.
  1. Unplug the handset from your phone.
  2. Connect a short cord from the switchbox to the phone.
  3. Plug the handset and headset into the switchbox.
  4. Insert batteries or power cord.
  5. Make a couple of quick adjustments.

Switchbox variations include cordless operation, and models designed for under-desk and under-phone mounting; plus models that allow one headset to be used with both a telephone and a computer.
Some phones have built-in headset/handset switching, and work without a separate switchbox.
Some of these phones have "modular"' jacks,
and some have 2.5mm jacks.

 
Many cordless and cellular phones have 2.5mm jacks for easy connection of headsets equipped with 2.5mm plugs.
Some cellular phones require headset adapters. The adapter plugs into the phone, and then the headset plugs into the adapter.

A growing number of phones, particularly cellphones, use Bluetooth technology to work with compact wireless headsets. There's no wire between th headset and the phone.
