Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard that uses a short-range radio link to carry voice and data between two Bluetooth compatible devices.

The technology was named for the Danish king Harald Blåtand (Bluetooth) who unified Denmark and Norway in the 10th Century.

Bluetooth is an open standard. Bluetooth devices can communicate with each other, regardless of manufacturer. Headsets are mated to phones using a simple procedure called "pairing". Some headsets can be paired with mulitiple phones. Almost all Bluetooth headsets will work with almost all Bluetooth phones, but there are some problems. Some headsets will not work right with the Palm Treo 700P.
